Hi, my name is Nathalie. My cats have been a big part of my life for a few years now. They bring me so much love and joy and I love coming home to them everyday. This page is dedicated to their awesomeness.
Roxy
Being somewhat chubby, Roxy enjoys the lazy life of eating, napping and sleeping. These were the immediate feelings I documented when we decided to adopt her.
I finally got around to setting up the cat's area in the living room. We went cat supply shopping on Friday and spent about 100 bucks, though 1/3 of that went to a really nice cat carrier. We also got lots of mouse toys, cute ceramic food and water dishes and a small donut bed that I've read most cats love. And instead of spending a ton of money on those pre-built cat condos, I decided to build it one out of some supplies we had laying around the house.
We're getting the cat at the Maryland SPCA where cats are now 25% off since it's Adopt-A-Cat Month. The kitty's adoption will also come with some free toys, food and treats. I'm extremely excited! The sad part is that I think I'm leaving the day before we're suppose to go pick it up. I wanted to see it right away, but now I'm probably going to have to wait two weeks.
It's now a few days later. As predicted, Cory got the call to pick up the kitty after I'd already left for Miami. When we saw it together at the shelter the day before though, we knew she was the one right away. She has the most gorgeous green eyes! Oh, and she weighs almost twelve pounds. I'd like to see her lose some weight, so when we take her to the vet for her check-up I'll ask about that. She's only a year old and is extremely calm and loving. Cory says that she follows him all around the apartment, and if he leaves the room she'll start meowing. Awww.
| Distinguishing Features | Favorite Things To Do |
|---|---|
| Black stripe down her nose | Sleeping in open dresser drawers |
| High-pitched meow | Getting her stomach rubbed |
| Tortoiseshell coat coloring | Kneading fluffy blankets |
| Bright green eyes | Scratching her cardboard toy |
Today, Roxy is still the calm and loving cat that I originally wrote about. She hasn't lost much weight since then, but we are trying to feed her less and play with her more. We'll see what happens.
Muffin
Coming from the street, Muffin takes dominance as the troublemaker in the house. These were the immediate feelings I documented when we found her.
When my boss Luci left the office today to do some errands, she called my cell and told me to come out to her car because she had something crazy to show me.
I went outside and saw three people already huddled around the open hood of her car. I thought it was car trouble, but when I got closer and looked down into the engine, I spotted a beautiful little grey kitten! Apparently the kitten had jumped into Luci's car to stay warm overnight, and when she turned the car on she heard a loud howling noise. Then she turned her car off, continued to hear soft meowing sounds and figured out it was a cat.
After spending about 15 minutes getting the cat out of a small hole at the top of the engine, we talked about what we should do with it and I finally decided that I wanted to take the kitten home with me since she was obviously a stray. She was very dirty, skinny, and totally covered in fleas. I spoke with Cory to see if we could keep it if its owner wasn't found and he readily agreed. A few months ago we were discussing the possibility of getting a second cat, so we figured we might as well go for it while we have the chance! I went ahead and put up a "Found Cat" listing on Craigslist and filled out a "Found Cat" form on the MDSPCA website, but no one came forward.
The kitten is living in our bathroom right now. We gave it a flea bath, wrapped it up in a towel and combed it with a flea comb and managed to pick out a few fleas. She was purring so much during the combing. She's a very affectionate kitty and loves to be held and pet. She looks to be about eight months old but she's SO tiny for her age. We're still trying to come up with a name.
| Distinguishing Features | Favorite Things To Do |
|---|---|
| Amber-colored eyes | Wrestling with Roxy in the morning |
| Small kitten-like frame | Meowing for attention at night |
| Grey fur with black stripes | Playing fetch with her mouse toys |
| Tip of her tail is crooked | Destroying our wooden door frames |
Today, Muffin enjoys life in our apartment with Roxy. She's extremely afraid of going outside now even though she spent the first half of her life there. I guess it was a scary place. We decided on the name Muffin because I've always wanted to name a cat after a cute food.
